One of the biggest coins done in 2007 police wise was from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Homeland Security section. They had many troops deploy and when they needed to raise funds to send care packages they turn to the only custom challenge coin maker they could find that would donate to the cause. in conjuction the one and only MDPDHS coin was produced. This was an exciting coin to do and all the media got to buzzing about it.
The story was first featured in the Miami Herald then it spread over to Fox News and NPR. Everyone was so impressed with the efforts the Major and his team of Officers put behind this mission. They sent hundreds of care packages to the med serving over in support of Iraq and Afghanistan. For this they are recognized as our “Police Department of the Year”. I know they have some good things up their sleeve for next year so be prepared for another great run!
