Branson Police Special Operations Squad Here is one of the latest coins coming from the Branson Police Department, Special operations Squad. This coin is a wonderful coin becuase it mixes the best of both worlds of display and old school. On the one side they used their logo and trimmed it around with a flat cut edge. This side really shines for display purposes while the other brings back an old school feeling. It keeps the antique nickel finish with a wonderful quote from the Bible. Well the new challenge coin auctions website has finally come out to sell only challenge coins and related items at next to nothing. Big brother is gone and this will help sellers come in and sell in larger volumes because of the huge reduction of fees.

Winning Your Challenge

What’s the point of collecting if you never get a chance to use a coin for its intended purpose? Exactly, these coins can earn you free beers and those that never use it even once are missing out on some very fun times. There are no doubt great times to help you win a challenge against people that are not expecting it coming. For example at the end of shift you can drop a coin as all the officers get in the locker room and shower. That’s a guaranteed win your first time out. It doesn’t take a lot to win a challenge at many police stations, it just takes timing.

Watch out though people will see what you did and remember it the next time so you will always need to step up the level of play. Whatever you do, don’t forget to have a coin with you at all times. Make sure you know the house rules too. Some people only count the coin if it is from the unit. Some will accept any coin. Some won’t accept a coin that has a hole in it for a keychain insert. Just whatever you do, make sure the rules are known by everyone right up front so no one can weasel out of it.

For the guys reading this that are in charge, make sure you start something like this and you will see your morale shoot up as your officers have a little fun with something that creates a close knit family.

OMG! (sarcasm of the adoption of this term I learned this week) How can your unit not have a coin? Well we blame you for not getting the word out for only the best hobby out there today. Challenge coins are spreading like no other hobby in our eyes. We hear all the time from people saying they just found out about a challenge coin and how do you get started. There is so much information on the net today to help you find out some great stuff about collecting police coins, or making some coins.

Police Department of the Year, 2007

Miami Dade Police Challenge Coin

One of the biggest coins done in 2007 police wise was from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Homeland Security section. They had many troops deploy and when they needed to raise funds to send care packages they turn to the only custom challenge coin maker they could find that would donate to the cause. in conjuction the one and only MDPDHS coin was produced. This was an exciting coin to do and all the media got to buzzing about it.

The story was first featured in the Miami Herald then it spread over to Fox News and NPR. Everyone was so impressed with the efforts the Major and his team of Officers put behind this mission. They sent hundreds of care packages to the med serving over in support of Iraq and Afghanistan. For this they are recognized as our “Police Department of the Year”. I know they have some good things up their sleeve for next year so be prepared for another great run!
